Before he became a judge, Gannam had about 23 years of experience as an attorney. In that time, he argued 11 non-jury trials, 6 arbitration cases, 8 cases for administrative bodies (government agencies), and 13 appellate cases to completion. For the first 6 years, he specialized in commercial litigation for businesses and high net worth people, including class action defense. For the next 8 years, he specialized in business and consumer litigation, including prosecution of consumer class actions. He also advised clients on real estate matters and worked pro bono in religious liberty litigation. In 2014, he began working for Liberty Counsel, where he stayed until his judicial appointment in 2023. At Liberty Counsel, he shifted his focus to constitutional law. He says he represented individuals and organizations seeking "vindication" for a burden on religious exercise or discrimination against religious views.
Before that, he was a judicial extern for one fall for judges at United States Bankruptcy Court and was a summer associate at two law firms.
This judge is a member of the Federalist Society.
This judge is a textualist, who uses an interpretation of the Constitution that is advocated by the Federalist Society.
He has belonged to The Alliance for Therapeutic Choice and Scientific Integrity, Alliance Defending Freedom, Florida Family Policy Council, Pacific Justice Institute, and the Republican Executive Committee of Duval County.
