Before he became a judge, Mize had about 11 years of experience as an attorney. In that time, he argued 1 jury trials, 1 non-jury trials, and 1 appellate case to completion. He specialized in civil law, including commercial, consumer protection and other civil litigation for businesses and individuals. He practiced in both state and federal court.
Before that, he was a Summer Associate for 1 summer at Bush Ross, P.A..

This judge is a textualist, who uses an interpretation of the Constitution that is advocated by the Federalist Society.
He was President of the University of Florida's Federalist Society chapter (2008-2010) and a board member of the Federalist Society's DC Young Layers chapter (2017-2018).
He was also a member of the National Rifle Association, College Republicans, Law School Republicans, and Republican National Lawyers Association.
While in college, he was also an editor of Florida Law Review (2009-2010).
